Duration of programme: between 100 -120 minutes to complete.

Size of groups:

Ideally training sessions are conducted in groups of up to 20 people at a time.
(Groups with lesser numbers can be trained - but at the same session price)

Groups greater than 20 can be trained when absolutely necessary. (an additional cost per head applies)

Groups over 25 people: a second trainer may be required to obtain the best result for you and the participants; alternatively we recommend an additional training session be conducted.

Required Training Materials per person, per session:

1 x  Straight Back to Health Employee / Associate 36 page colour workbook
1 x Laminated Exercise/stretch tri-fold card per trainee.

We  also provide (specially printed)  Company Branded -  Logo included  editions of the work books.  All special edition work books incur an extra cost.  A quote is provided.

2. Train the Employee / Associate Follow-Up Workshop

Once the initial training program #1 has been completed and after 6 to 12 months of application by the trainee, it is recommended that the entire workforce be put through a revision program,  then  complete the practical exam to become Accredited Manual Handlers in the Straight Back to Health Program.

This revision program opens the way to the accredited unit of competency It will be carried forward by all employees and associates who complete the program successfully.

This program is normally completed in two hours and is comprised of : revision and amplification of the reasons and effects of incorrect lifting and poor manual handling:

• bending forward whilst lifting
• twisting from the lower back or twisting and lifting whilst bent over
• jumping from a raised area to the ground
• reaching out or up and away from the body

Correct manual handling techniques are discussed, demonstrated and an understanding is reached as to why the correct techniques have to be employed.

A circuit is then set up using the appropriate measures to assess the participant’s new skills and our trained instructor then examines the participant in the “shifting of materials safely” until they pass the test to a 100% result.

Each participant is then issued a certificate of completion confirming  the participant has passed and is a competent manual handler.

3. Train the Employee / Associate Advanced Workshop

Once the initial #1 training program is completed, and after the # 2 revision program is completed, some On-site Manual Handling Champions and usually all Supervisors of manual handling activities complete a more theoretical accreditation training unit.

This is a planning module and reaches into a person’s real ability to apply all they know about correct manual handling and the use of correct working postures to the benefit of others involved in manual handling activities.

Graduates work in small groups to plan major work activities using all the applicable OH & S Law, Codes of Practice and the various Work cover guide lines on the subject. This culminates in Graduates achieving a nationally recognised unit of Competency.

4. Train the In-house Trainer Workshop

A two day workshop for managers/supervisors and safety champions who want to become able to train on-site staff and new hires in the #1 & # 2 programs.

A Straight Back to Health Program manual and workshop workbook is included.

Sessions are available to groups of 6 or more trainees. They are trained within the employer’s own facility with a full “apprenticeship” step included.

A follow up session after  3 months is included here,  where trainees are reviewed on their ability to conduct a training session in-house and to engage in corrective actions on the shop floor in a competent and professional manner.

This makes it a 3 day training and assessment activity overall.

Graduates who pass the assessment criteria will be licensed to use our training system in house and will be able to use our training materials.  This is an extensive training in what a manual handling risk is and how to avoid these risks in the workplace.

Risk identification,  risk assessments and risk controls are discussed in detail and all of the applicable laws and codes are also reviewed thoroughly.   Attendance at one of our employee / associate two hour sessions is a pre-requisite to this training.
